Hypertufa

What Is Hypertufa?

Hypertufa is made from various aggregates bonded together using Portland cement. It is very popular for making garden ornaments, pots and land forms.

Hypertufa is relatively light compared with terracotta or traditional concrete and can withstand harsh winters with proper drainage.

Sedum Chicks, LLC, makes our own hypertufa planters in all shapes and sizes. We create different color tones of natural, red, brown and charcoal. Hypertufa is a wonderful way to showcase sedum and sempervivum arrangements.

How to Plant a Hypertufa Container

Gather supplies

  • 12-inch tweezers (if available)
  • Sedum and Sempervivum plants — desired amount
  • Soil — I prefer Black Gold, Organic

Fill the container with soil.
Remember to mound soil slightly in the middle to ensure good drainage

Arrange plants

  • Put taller plants in the middle or behind
  • Put shorter or trailing plants on the edges

Remove dirt from the bottom of plants
Use your fingers or the tweezers to put the plants in place

Maintenance
Keep trimmed to desired shape
Water/soak once or twice a week in summer

Enjoy all year round
